Why Low Fat Isn’t As Healthy As You Think

You might be tempted to pick up that fat-free version of your favorite food at the grocery store…
But you might want to reconsider. Fat seems to be the devil to anyone who’s trying to lose weight or just eat healthy. Opting for the low-fat option seems like the right choice, but it’s not quite what it advertises to be.
Some foods with less fat are also high in sugar, carbs, and other components that may have adverse health effects. They’re also way less filling, so you’ll be tempted to eat more of these types of foods.
Instead of demonizing all types of fat, you should focus on eating the right kinds. Things like avocado, salmon, and nuts are high in fat, but when eaten in the right amount are highly beneficial to our health. Things with trans fat should be eaten in moderation, however, to avoid high cholesterol.
While it’s not the worst thing to choose something with a low-fat label on it, you should be wary of other ingredients that may be compensating for the lack of fat.
