Exercising After An Injury
After an injury, you might be skeptical about getting back into the groove of working out.
It’s important to remember that getting better is the priority. While it’s difficult to sit at home and do nothing, your body needs that rest to function as it should. After you’ve fully recovered, you can begin to think about getting back into exercise.
Walking is a great first step in slowly getting back to your original self. It’s a low-impact activity, which means minimal stress on any of your joints that may be still recuperating from the injury.
Don’t ignore pain. It may be tempting to push through it, but you’ll be causing more damage. Our bodies are smart. They tell us when we’ve gone too far.
Focus on the things you CAN do. Eating right and drinking water are two things you can do to heal your body. Eating junk while you’re injured is a sure way to ruin any progress your body has made, so make sure your food is hearty.
When you’re ready, find a good physical therapist that can guide you to recovery and speed up the process to the best of their ability.
